Helping individuals become environmentally aware, make informed environmental decisions, and take self-directed actions.

Welcome to the Great Lakes Earth Institute

It's About You!

Hello and Welcome!
We're glad you found us. The Great Lakes Earth Institute exists to support your desire to learn about and connect with the environment, to help you evaluate and fine-tune your environmental impact, and to advocate for the environment based upon your own personal convictions. We do it together by arming ourselves with timely and accurate information while establishing links to each other and to individuals and organizations who make the environment a priority. This is a cooperative, grass-roots effort.

'Why Should You Get Involved?' you may ask.
The answers are straightforward:

  • Your actions with regard to the environment matter on both a small and large scale. How could they not? In many ways, the earth is a closed system - one big blue terrarium.
  • You make good decisions based on knowledge and experience - or it's a goal.
  • With rare exceptions, you are the best person to decide what's good for you.
  • You care about children, your own (if you are lucky to have them) and those of others. The world they inherit will impact the quality of their lives.
  • Government passes laws, but it doesn't change hearts.
  • If you take action, others will be inspired to follow. They may not be as bold, but they will make an effort none-the-less.
  • The Western Great Lakes region is your home and you like living in a nice place.
